The completed building provides the campus with STEM learning spaces, designed to support and enrich the school’s diverse curriculum. Northcote High School emphasises the development of “the knowledge, skills, and attributes required for a globalised world” as a cornerstone of its teaching philosophy.
The design incorporates creation and sharing zones that increase student agency across all curriculum areas, particularly in science, through experimentation, design, and demonstration. Purpose-built science environments enable students to demonstrate high-level skills and performance in contemporary settings. A range of flexible learning environments—collaborative, quiet, and production-focused—support student agency, self-regulation, and differentiated learning. The layout connects learning neighbourhoods, ensuring calm, orderly movement throughout the campus while maintaining a balance between connectivity, privacy, and personal space. The building’s palette draws from the red brick of adjacent campus buildings and the natural tones of the neighbouring park, creating a cohesive and visually integrated addition to the school. The result is a modern, functional learning environment that reflects Northcote High School’s educational philosophy and enriches the broader campus experience.
