The redevelopment in the North Richmond public housing estate consists of the design of new social and affordable housing, with 144 new homes to be delivered across a range of 1, 2 and 3 bedroom residences, in response to the changing needs of households in Victoria. The homes will feature environmentally efficient design, ensuring increased comfort and reduced heating and cooling costs, and will have a minimum Silver rating from Liveable Housing Australia. They will carry a 5-star Green Star rating and achieve an average rating of 7 stars on the NatHERS scale. Additionally, at least 5 percent of the new social housing homes will be easily accessible for Victorians with disabilities. The project includes generous landscaping, pedestrian connections and open spaces for the community to meet and enjoy.
Richmond Social Housing is part of the Big Housing Build initiative ‘building thousands of new homes for Victorians in need and creating tens of thousands of jobs to support Victoria’s recovery”. The Victorian Government is investing $71 million in the development at Richmond.
