Through a series of additions and some recladding the house acts as a bridge between the industrial, domestic and commercial buildings in the immediate surroundings. This fits with the home-office program accomodated inside. With an extended north frontage along Webb Street and an elevated floor level the main rooms and outdoor areas are orientated to the street.
In this way the life of the house contributes to the life of the street. Lightshafts and courtyards provide ample natural light and relate the occupants to both the sky and the ground.
